Effective Evaluation
An essential component of any science communication project, effective
evaluation enables organisers to collect valuable information on
how to build on previous experience, which in turn will help to
secure or maintain funding. Ben Johnson, an experienced evaluator
of projects large and small, will be serving up practical, cost-effective
advice. Suitable for event organisers.
Tuesday 10 September
Making Time to Talk: linking scientists with the community
The second working lunch is aimed at anyone interested in forging
links between scientists and their local community. Three different
programmes—Meet the Scientist: dialogue events; Science &
Engineering Ambassadors; and, National Science Week at University
of Cambridge—will highlight ways for scientists to discuss
science and its social implications. Information on avenues of training
and funding for will also be available. Suitable for scientists
and event organisers.

Marketing and Publicity
Every science communication project has an audience. But who are
they? How do you let them know what will be happening, or what happened,
cheaply and effectively? Join Kathy Sykes, Director of Cheltenham
Science Festival, for this lunchtime selection of great tips on
the practicalities of marketing and publicising, on a realistic
budget. Suitable for event organisers.
Thursday 12 September
Networking Science Festivals
Science Festivals have sprung up all over the UK and are proving
an increasingly popular way of reaching broad public audiences.
This event provides an opportunity for science festival directors
to identify areas for potential collaboration, share best practice
and improve the exchange between festivals and other parts of the
science communication community. For directors of regional
science festivals only.
