The Copus Logo

This page contains links to the Copus logo that should be used on all printed and appropriate publicity, including any website associated with the project.

The three most popular variants of the Copus logo are:

  1. Full colour JPEG logo, large size and high resolution, for use in Word documents, desk-top publishing programmes etc.
  2. Full colour JPEG logo, medium size and low resolution, for use on websites.
  3. Full colour EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) logo for use in desk-top publishing applications, and professional layout and design applications.

To download these logos, right-click (or Control-click or similar) on the description of the logo you would like and choose the option "Save Target As..." or "Download target to disk".

Many more variants of the logo, including colour, black, white, eps, jpeg, tiff and gif variants are available at the bottom of this page.

Using the Logos

There are no formal restrictions on the use of the logos: please use common-sense in maintaining the logo's integrity (so please don't edit, squash or stretch, rotate, recolour or alter the logos). There is no mandated exclusion zone, but request that you use common-sense.

Please note that the Copus logo, and all the Copus logo files linked to on this page are the property of the Royal Society and are supplied on this website for use only in connection with projects funded under the Copus Grant Schemes.

Describing Copus Grants

Copus is written as Copus – it is not an acronym. Examples of phrases to describe Copus Grants include:

  • The Copus Grant Schemes for science communication projects
  • Copus Grant Schemes support ways of making science more accessible to public audiences.
  • This project is supported by a grant from the Copus Grant Schemes. The Schemes provide funding and support for activities and projects outside the formal education system that improve two-way communication between scientific communities and public audiences. Copus Grant Schemes are funded by the Office of Science and Technology and the Royal Society, and are administered by the Royal Society.

We would also accept phrases that were specifically suited to your project, for example "Funded by a Copus Grant, which supports science-based projects in local communities."

See also the advice on this website on publicising your project.

Choosing a logo

The logo is available in three colours:

  • Full colour, for normal print and web use. The background colour should normally be white.
  • Black, for use in monochrome/black and white printing. The background colour should normally be white, or a light colour.
  • White (on transparent) for use on dark-coloured backgrounds.

Each colour of logo is available is as an EPS file generated from Adobe Illustrator for Macintosh which can be resized from very small to very large without any loss in image quality (this format is suitable for most professional design work).

The full-colour and black logos are also available in other file formats:

  • JPEG: Full-colour and Black logos are available in JPEG format, which is suitable for use in word-processing documents, and on web-pages.
  • TIFF: Full-colour and Black logos are available in TIFF format, which is suitable for use in word-processing documents, and desk-top publishing software.
  • GIF: The White logo is available in GIF format, which is suitable for web-pages.

and these file formats are available in a variety of sizes, to maintain image quality:

  • Small (example use: A5 flyers, web-page)
  • Medium (example use: A4 posters, web-page)
  • Large (example use: A3 posters, high-quality print-work)

and in two resolutions, depending on the quality of the final output required:

  • 150dpi for printed matter, posters, publications etc.
  • 72dpi for web-pages, emails etc.

To download these logos either:

  1. Right-click (or Control-click or similar) on the description of the logo you would like and choose the option "Save Target As..." or "Download target to disk".
  2. For JPEG and GIF only: click on the description of the logo you would like, and then choose File... Save As... when the logo is displayed in the browser.
