Assessing Grant Applications from Panel Members
The following procedure was agreed at the Copus Grants Panel meeting
of 23 January 2002:
The application is considered as for other grant applications:
all Panel members see the application and score it. Panel members
are asked to supply their scores and written comments before the
meeting. Scores and comments are not disclosed to a Panel member
applicant.
If the Panel member making an application is at the meeting, then
their application is not discussed at the meeting. Instead, the
Panel decides which of the applications they award at that meeting
is the lowest priority to fund. After the meeting, the Chair decides
whether the application from a Panel member is better than the application
nominated as the lowest priority to fund, based on the scores and
comments. If so, then the Panel member's application is funded,
and the nominated application not.
If the Panel member making the application is not at the meeting,
then the application is considered as normal. Panel members receive
notification of the outcome of their applications as per the other
applicants.
